Dear Families,
Welcome to the 2026-2027 school year! I hope you have all had a restful, fun-filled summer break. Our team has been working hard to prepare our classrooms and hallways for an incredible year ahead, and we cannot wait to welcome our students back.
I have some exciting personal news to share! Over the summer, I got married and have officially changed my name to Principal Mejia. Because I am so used to hearing “Garnica,” I will absolutely still answer to it as we all transition to Mejia together this year!
I have some fantastic news to share regarding our students’ literacy progress this past school year! Thanks to their hard work and your dedicated support at home, the percentage of students reading at or above grade level grew from 22.4% in the fall to 31.5% this spring. An impressive 9.1 percentage point increase. This momentum reflects the strength of our reading initiatives and the determination of our learners, and we look forward to building on this great success together in the year ahead!
Please note these important upcoming dates for August and September:
Week of August 17: Kindergarten teachers will begin reaching out directly to families to schedule our annual Kindergarten Interviews.
Monday, August 24: First day of school for students in 1st through 8th grade.
Thursday, August 27, 2026: First day of school for our Kindergarten students.
Thursday, September 3, 2026: Back to School Night! Join us to meet your child’s teachers, tour the classrooms, and learn more about what this year has in store.
Thank you for your continued trust, support, and partnership. Together, we are going to make this a wonderful year of growth, learning, and community.
Warmly,
Principal Mejia (formerly Garnica)
School Principal
